Making Ice Blocks

As part of our topic we talked about how we can mix water (liquid) with juice powder (solid). The powder dissolved into the liquid. We talked about this being an irreversible change.
We then talked about what would happen if we put the liquid into the freezer. It would change into a solid. When we took the ice block out of the freezer, the air around the ice block was warmer than the ice so it started to melt. This was a reversible change.
The ice blocks tasted yummy. We had fun while we were learning!

Auckland Library Roadshow

Today the Auckland Library Roadshow came to Sunnyhills School. We had a lot of fun listening to stories, dancing and playing parts in a story. One of the visitors dressed up as a Grandma, he was very funny!

How To Make A Frozen Hand

For our Topic we are leaning about water and ice. We decided to investigate what would happen to water if we poured it into a rubber glove and put it into the freezer. We described what we could see and feel when the glove was full of water and we predicted what would happen if we put it into the freezer. We then took the frozen hand out of the freezer and talked about what we could see and feel. We linked this into our Writing and we also wrote instructions on How To Make A Frozen Hand. Have a look in our publishing books to read our instructions.

2D Shape Pictures

We have been learning to name and describe 2D and 3D shapes. We drew around 2D shapes to make some lovely shape pictures.

Spring Has Sprung

We have looked at photos of daffodils, which are one of the flowers that tell us that Spring is here. We did some observational drawings using art pencils, then we went over the pencil lines with vivid and coloured them with oil pastels. We love our Spring pictures.

Writing Instructions

We have been Writing instructions. One of our Writing sessions was to write instructions on How to make a pizza. We enjoyed following our instructions to make our pizzas using paper food. Yum! Yum!
