Miss Kirkham's Last Day

On Friday it was Miss Kirkham's last day in Room 13!!!

She has been a fantastic teacher and we have loved every minute of her being with us.

We had a few games to celebrate Miss Kirkham's last day. We played musical chairs, corners, musical statues, pass the kiwi and sang some songs. It was SO much fun.

Thank you for being such an awesome teacher Miss Kirkham and thank you for the goodie bags with the pencils, rubbers and stamps. You were very kind.

We miss Miss Kirkham already but she has promised to pop in to see us once her exams are finished.

Playground Safety

We have been learning about Playground Safety, talking about how we need to be careful in the playground.
Go UP the stairs and DOWN the side.
DO NOT stand under the pole when someone is coming down.
The softfall does not hurt when you fall on it. The concrete DOES hurt.
Be careful of the poles. Watch where you are going.
DO NOT run around corners.
DO NOT climb over the bars of the boat playground.
DO NOT walk through the flying fox when someone is using it.

Evaporation

As part of our topic, we talked about what would happen to our clothes if we put them in the wash and hung them out to dry. Some of us predicted the water would fall onto the ground and make a puddle and some of us predicted that the water would disappear. What do you think really happened to the water?

Making Ice Blocks

As part of our topic we talked about how we can mix water (liquid) with juice powder (solid). The powder dissolved into the liquid. We talked about this being an irreversible change.
We then talked about what would happen if we put the liquid into the freezer. It would change into a solid. When we took the ice block out of the freezer, the air around the ice block was warmer than the ice so it started to melt. This was a reversible change.
The ice blocks tasted yummy. We had fun while we were learning!

How To Make A Frozen Hand

For our Topic we are leaning about water and ice. We decided to investigate what would happen to water if we poured it into a rubber glove and put it into the freezer. We described what we could see and feel when the glove was full of water and we predicted what would happen if we put it into the freezer. We then took the frozen hand out of the freezer and talked about what we could see and feel. We linked this into our Writing and we also wrote instructions on How To Make A Frozen Hand. Have a look in our publishing books to read our instructions.

The Olympic Flame

The Olympic Flame (a pretend one) came to Sunnyhills today. The Year 3s did a relay race in slow motion and they said the Olympic oath. We went out to watch because we are learning about the 2016 Olympics this term. It was lots of fun.

MOTAT Trip

Our topic at the moment is Toys. We visited MOTAT today and we had an education session which told us a lot about old and new toys. Everyone had fun playing with the toys, even Mrs Burge and the parent helpers. We got to explore MOTAT, learn about the trams and we had lots of fun along the way. Fantastic learning for Room 13.
